What stays on your Mac

Selected text, translations, OCR images and encrypted translation history stay on your Mac. OCR images are discarded immediately after recognition. Elsewrite refuses secure fields before reading their contents.

When Elsewrite uses the network

Apple may download language models when a route needs them. Elsewrite uses the network for purchase, activation and seat management, update metadata, support you explicitly request, and optional analytics after consent. Source text, translated text and OCR content are not sent for those operations.

Licensing and purchase records

Purchase and licensing operations use the purchase email, offer and entitlement identifiers, device activation records and audit events needed to issue or revoke a device-bound certificate and enforce the five-Mac limit. License keys and emails are excluded from application logs and analytics.

Optional analytics

Native product analytics is off by default and requires explicit opt-in. Its random identifier is separate from licensing and hardware identity. Disabling analytics stops new collection and clears the unsent local queue. Accepted raw events currently have no scheduled expiry; Delete analytics data removes rows for that anonymous identifier and rotates it locally.

If first-party web analytics is enabled, it is cookie-free and keeps a random identifier only for the browser session. Approximate country may be derived from the request IP before the IP is discarded. GA4 remains disabled unless separately configured and consented.

Processors and contact

Dodo Payments processes payment events and Resend delivers transactional email when commerce is enabled. Apple provides the on-device language and OCR frameworks and model downloads. Privacy questions and deletion requests can be sent to [email protected].
